What Death Can Teach Us About Life

Today is Day 1 of the Ship 30 for 30 writing challenge. First, I planned to write an introduction to Web 3. But yesterday evening, I heard about the sudden death of an old schoolmate. The news forced me to pause and reflect on the nature of life and death again. The same thing I did in 2020 during the lockdown when I evaluated my life and realised that my job was at the centre of my life. I placed an unhealthy amount of pride in my career. Yet, I was still unhappy and restless.

After a deep reflection, I concluded that;

1. Close knight relationships are enduring sources of happiness.

In 2021 I made some changes and moved to be closer to family. This singular act led to a tremendous amount of mental growth. My relationship with my parents grew deeper, and I am reminded that I am exceedingly loved every day. My relationship with God also improved, and now I gain my self worth from His love and not the number of responsibilities I take on at work.

2. Enjoying the process of building my life is key to my contentment.

At this point in my life, I am content. I have not achieved the goals I set for myself, but I am enjoying the process of achieving them. I won’t place my happiness and self-worth on how fast I climb up the career ladder or how many profound articles I publish each year. Instead, I will live one day at a time while enjoying the process of achieving my lofty goals.

I really hope that we enjoy the life we have now while building the life we want.
